About Us

Federal law requires that all urbanized areas in the United States with populations of more than 50,000 persons establish a Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) responsible for area transportation planning and programming activities. The metropolitan planning process establishes a continuous, comprehensive, and cooperative framework for making transportation investment decisions in metropolitan areas. Program oversight is a joint responsibility of the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration.

The designated MPO in the Sioux Falls urbanized area is the The Urbanized Development Commission (UDC) of the South Eastern Council of Governments (SECOG). The UDC directs and oversees all transportation planning and programming activities within the official Sioux Falls metropolitan planning study area. SECOG provides staffing for the UDC.
